Department Sociology
The department of Sociology was Started in the Year 1969. Prof. P. S. Dhawale was the founder and Head of the department of Sociology.
In the Year 1987 -88, Sociology was Introduced as a major subject in the college by Prof. P. S. Dhawale. In the Year 1988 Prof. P. S. Dhawale was the appointed as the Principal and the Shri. V. N. Jamkhandi as Lecturer in Sociology.
In the Year 1995 Principal P. S. Dhawale who also headed the Department retired from his service. Since September 1995 -2022, Prof. V. N. Jamkhandi Assistant Professor had been heading the Department of Sociology.

To cultivate multiple ways of understanding society in order to create purposeful futures for our students in an ever evolving employment market by application of sociological knowledge gained through collaborative education, community engagement, experiential learning, developing transferable skills such as research, professional writing, effective communication, inclusivity and leadership.
Department Objectives
To impart in depth knowledge in the subject of sociology to create awareness in the students regarding the role of sociology in society.
To enlighten the students to understand the various social problems of India.
To enlighten students regarding the culture of our society as well as other societies.
To help students to know the impact of the west on Indian culture and it’s implications.
To acquaint latest books of Sociology.

Department Activities
Every year ‘Hindi Day’ is celebrated on September 14 and to mark this day several competitions are conducted, Essay writing, self composed poetry recitation, Speech competitions, analysis of books etc. The learning of Hindi Language and Literature is promoted by inviting eminent persons to deliver special lectures. Dr. Dilip Singh, DBHPS, Dr. U.R. Masuti, KUD, Prof. Prabha Bhat, KUD, Dr. Amarjyoti, DBHPS, Dr. Chitra Naik, DBHPS, Dr. Sattigeri, DBHPS, Dr.Advani, JSS College, Dr. Jubeda Mulla, Nehru College, Dr. Vidyavati Rajput, SK Arts and HSK Science College, Dr. V.M. Dodamani, Kittel Science College, Dr. Hombali, Principal, GFGC, Alnavar, Shree Wankhade, Rajbhasha Adhikari, Railways, Shree Hundekar, Deputy Director Rajbhasha, AIR are the eminent personalities who visited the department and interacted with the students.
The Department in collaboration with the Language club organised and conducted a One Day National Seminar on Contribution of Basel Missionaries to Classical Kannada Language and Literature on 05-03-2019. An online quiz was conducted by the department during 2020-21.
