Department History

The department of Kannada started in the Year 1968. Professors are passionate about building Kannada literature and Kannada culture. Dr. Vamana Bendre, son of Jnanapeeth award winner Dr. D. RA. Bendre, founder of the department. He established the department the nobal ideas and visionary creations. Prof. D. K. Joshi, Dr. G. M. Hegde, Prof. Suresh Pujer worked as his colleagues. Prof. D. K. Joshi was an ideal teacher and spiritual thinker. Dr. G. M. Hegde Rajostava Award Winner and the S. S. Malwad Awarde. Prof. Suresh Pujer is the favorite teacher of the students. All their services are memorable. Principal Dr. Rekha Jogul who has been serving since 1999.

The vision of the department is to move towards excellence in higher education in Order to achieve a just, plural and equitable society in consonance with the more values.

Department Mission

Kannada language, one of the Dravidian languages, has received the prestigious tag of “Classical Language”. Kannada not only being a language, it yields knowledge too. It Is The Official Language Of Karnataka State. It imparts knowledge to students about the past glory and the present contemporary language and literature.
